Leart Paqarada

Bundesliga side FC Köln have today announced the signing of Leart Paqarada on a free transfer from St. Pauli. The 28-year-old will join the club in the summer on a three-year contract until 2026.

“I am incredibly proud to be able to wear the FC kit in the coming season,” said Paqarada. “An entire city, that lives for the club and loves the club to the fullest. To be back in the city where I grew up and what means home for me is a feeling that I can’t describe.”

Paqarada has played 15 games in the 2. Bundesliga for St. Pauli this season and since his move from Sandhausen in 2020, has represented the club in 85 games across all competitions.

Born in Aachen, Paqarada came through the youth teams at Bayer Leverkusen but failed to make a first team appearance for Die Werkself before joining Sandhausen in 2014.

A wealth of 2. Bundesliga experience, Paqarada operates at left-back, which leaves the future of Jonas Hector uncertain, given the captain’s contract expires at the end of the season – reports suggest he may retire.

FC Köln have started 2023 in exemplary fashion after beating Werder Bremen 7-1 on Saturday evening. Next, they make the trip to leaders Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
