Vitinha

Marseille has made a record transfer by signing Vitinha (22) for a club record of €32m, despite facing financial sanctions from UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB). Marseille, along with seven other clubs, were fined 2 million euros for exceeding the allowed deficit over three financial years.

Under the settlement agreement signed with the CFCB, Marseille must return to financial balance or face harsher penalties, including being limited to 23 players in European competitions or not being able to register new players.

If the club and seven others fall financially, they may be excluded from the next UEFA interclub competition in 2024-25 and/or 2025-26 seasons.

The payment plan for Vitinha to Braga has no positive impact on the transfer’s financial fair play considerations. Marseille must divide the total cost of the transfer by the number of contract years, resulting in approximately 7 million euros in annual charges on its books.
