Callum Hudson-Odoi

Arsenal are reportedly tracking Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi ahead of a potential move in the summer.

The Lowdown: On loan in Germany

Hudson-Odoi is on loan at Beyer Leverkusen in Germany, where he has played 11 games in the Bundesliga and six in the UEFA Champions League, scoring one goal and making one assist (Transfermarkt).

The winger will return to Chelsea with the club having made eight new signings in the January transfer window, added to who they already signed in the summer, meaning that they may be forced to let him go on a permanent deal in order to accommodate their new faces.

The Latest: Arsenal ‘tracking’ Hudson-Odoi

As per The Guardian, Arsenal are thought to be tracking Hudson-Odoi ahead of a potential summer move.

The report claims that he is ‘unlikely’ to stay at Chelsea once he returns from his loan spell, meaning that the Gunners could have a good chance of signing him, after already doing business with their London rivals by signing Jorginho on transfer deadline day.

The Verdict: Avoid for now

Arsenal should avoid trying to sign Hudson-Odoi in the summer, considering that they already signed winger Leandro Trossard from Brighton & Hove Albion in January, and so should be looking to strengthen other positions first.

Central midfield should be the priority, given Mohamed Elneny’s latest serious injury, and the fact that Albert Sambi Lokonga could be facing an uncertain future after being loaned out to Crystal Palace.

Hudson-Odoi is certainly a promising talent, having already won the UEFA Champions League and being capped three times by England at 22, but just one goal and assist for Leverkusen this season is a poor return, and has also struggled with injuries in the past.

Nonetheless, Mikel Arteta’s team should think twice before making a move for the winger.
