Edinson Cavani has sent his congratulations to new team-mate and countryman Facundo Pellistri after the youngster sealed a transfer deadline day move to Manchester United.
The 18-year-old, who is highly rated in Uruguay, penned a five-year deal with the option for a sixth on Monday evening.
Pellistri joined from Club Atletico Penarol where he featured 37 times in Uruguay’s top flight and is well known by former United striker Diego Forlan.
“Pellistri has huge potential,” Forlan said in April. “There is still a lot to work on. He is growing and he makes the difference.
“We know it will be difficult to keep him for a long time. He has great pace and that is hard to handle.”
Edinson Cavani is another who joined on deadline day and the former Paris Saint-Germain striker sent a message to the youngster.
“Congratulations Facu,” he said. “Quiet trip that here we will be waiting to accompany you.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of positives after the youngster signed and hailed the teenager as one for the future.
“Our scouts have followed Facundo for a long time and we believe that he will be a real talent for the long term,” said the United boss.
“Whilst we understand it will take time for him to adapt to the English game, he is capable of having an impact with his pace and ability to beat his opponent.
“Facundo has the perfect platform at Manchester United to develop and he has all of the technical qualities and the right mentality required to become a top player here.
“We are all looking forward to working with him to fulfil his potential over the coming years.”
