Folarin Balogun’s first start for Monaco didn’t go to plan as he missed two penalties in a 1-0 defeat to Nice.
The striker was included in the starting lineup for the first time since signing from Arsenal last month.
However, on this occasion the 22-year-old had a night to forget, with his misery compounded by Jeremy Boga’s late winner for Nice.
Balogun stepped up to take Monaco’s first penalty in the 12th minute but his effort was kept out by goalkeeper Marcin Bulka.
In the 55th minute Monaco were awarded another spot-kick, with Balogun again taking it.
The outcome, though, was the same, with Bulka again keeping it out.
Despite the defeat Monaco are in second place in Ligue 1, one point behind Nice.
Balogun, who was substituted in 67th minute, will be looking to bounce back when Monaco host Marseille next weekend.
Last season USA international Balogun made a tremendous impact while on loan at Reims from Arsenal.
Balogun scored 22 goals for Reims, which sparked interest in him from numerous clubs.
After much speculation, Balogun ended up leaving Arsenal, where he had broken into the first-team squad after progressing through the ranks at the academy.
Balogun made just ten senior appearances for Arsenal, scoring twice, but seems well equipped for a successful career elsewhere.
