A goal in the 95th minute

As Alexander-Arnold delivered the cross, the goalkeeper timed his run perfectly and directed a powerful header into the far corner, leaving the West Brom goalkeeper with no chance.
Liverpool’s first goalkeeper goalscorer
Alisson became the first goalkeeper in Liverpool’s history to score in an official match. Despite the club’s long tradition and many legendary goalkeepers, none had ever managed to find the net before him. The goal therefore became a special milestone, both for Alisson personally and for Liverpool’s 2020/21 campaign.
The sixth goalkeeper to score in the Premier League
After scoring against West Brom, Alisson became the sixth goalkeeper to score in Premier League history. The list before him included Peter Schmeichel, Brad Friedel, Paul Robinson, Tim Howard, and Asmir Begović. However, Alisson was the first goalkeeper to score with a header in the competition.
The significance of Alisson’s goal
The goal carried enormous importance in Liverpool’s battle for a top-four finish while also highlighting the goalkeeper’s determination and remarkable football intelligence.
Securing three vital points
The 2–1 win over West Brom allowed Liverpool to maintain their push for a Champions League place. Had the match ended in a draw, the team would have faced a much tougher challenge in the final rounds of the season. As a result, Alisson’s header was not only spectacular but also highly valuable in practical terms.
Outstanding positioning and awareness
Although he is a goalkeeper, Alisson displayed movement more commonly associated with a striker. He separated himself from defenders, tracked the flight of the ball, and attacked the perfect area inside the box. Fans reviewing the goal on Cakhia TV or checking livescore hom nay can see that it was far more than luck—it demonstrated excellent anticipation and positioning.
Voted Liverpool’s Goal of the Season
Liverpool supporters voted Alisson’s header against West Brom as the club’s Goal of the Season for 2020/21. The fact that a goalkeeper won the award ahead of attacking players highlights just how extraordinary the moment was. The goal combined technical quality, emotional impact, and significant importance to the team’s success.
Why do goalkeepers rarely score?
Goalkeepers operate primarily in defensive areas, which means they have very few opportunities to attack the opposition goal or attempt shots.
Their main responsibility is defending
A goalkeeper’s primary job is to prevent goals. They spend most of the match near their own penalty area, far away from attacking positions. As a result, opportunities to score are extremely rare. This is why most professional goalkeepers finish their careers without a single goal.
They only join attacks late in games
Goalkeepers usually move into the opposition box only when their team desperately needs a goal in the closing minutes. Corner kicks and free kicks offer opportunities to use their height and aerial ability. However, this tactic carries major risks because their own goal is left unprotected if possession is lost.
Some goalkeepers specialize in scoring
A few goalkeepers have scored through penalties, direct free kicks, or long clearances. However, Alisson has never been responsible for set-piece duties at Liverpool. Therefore, when answering how many goals has Alisson Becker scored, fans only need to remember his famous header against West Brom in 2021.
