Aubameyang

Thierry Henry has questioned Mikel Arteta’s decision to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during Thursday’s 3-2 loss to Manchester United.

The Gabonese international endured a frustrating evening at Old Trafford, missing a golden opportunity to score in the second half.

Aubameyang was replaced by Alexandre Lacazette in the 79th minute of the defeat, but Henry is perplexed as to why the Arsenal captain did not play the full 90 minutes.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, the Gunners’ all-time leading goalscorer said: “One thing I couldn’t understand is, Aubameyang is your captain, he is your goalscorer, you put him as a captain.

“Fifteen minutes to go, you are losing 3-2, and you take him off. 3-2, away from home, and you take your captain, your symbol, off the field, and you know he can score you goals. So something is not right there.

“He has all the right in the world to take him off but if I’m captain, I’ll be going on the bench I’m not playing well but that shows ‘do they still trust me’.”

Aubameyang has admitted that he should have done better with his second-half opportunity, despite the fact that the 32-year-old was already in an offside position.
